Get Rid of These 5 Roadblocks That Kill Your Motivation

Name a person who hasn’t failed in life.

From Bill Gates to Michael Jordon, everyone has dealt with their share of failure and let-downs. Setbacks are a natural part of life. When you’re working in the corporate sector, most of us will certainly experience failure, or at least perceived failure in what we do.

But there’s one more problem you’ll face and that is losing your motivation!

Imagine losing your passion for doing what you love the most!

Sometimes you’ll want to throw in the towel. Sometimes you’ll take a look at the never-ending to-do list on your desk and wish the ground swallows you whole.

But where there’s a will, there’s a way. And if there’s no will, there’s no gain!

With that in mind, here are 5 roadblocks that will kill your motivation. Here’s what you can do to steer clear of them!

1.     Constant Need for Approval

As the new employee, as the new employee, you will get attention from everyone. Your manager will give you more feedback. You will get praised more.

But after some time, the feedback will stop and everyone will get used to you. There’s no need to panic! This doesn’t mean you’re not doing great!

And while the lack of feedback can be de-motivating, here’s what you can do: ask for it.

So many employees get scared of asking for feedback because they’re scared they’re not doing well. Well, look at this way: if you sucked at your job, you would probably end up in the meeting room with your manager!

So ask them for feedback on your work so you know which areas need improvement and you don’t end up in the meeting room.

2.     Being Stuck in a Rut

Falling into routine is the best way to kill motivation. And when you get projects that follow the same pattern, you’re bound to get bored.

So what can you do about it? Well, one thing you can do is communicate and talk to your manager! Tell them you want to take on more challenging projects; that you need VARIETY.

Another thing you need to do is join networking groups so you can get some fresh air. Talking to similar-minded people will help you get a change of pace and learn more about how others handle the same problems!

3.     Seeing NO Results

There will be days when you will ask yourself what you’re doing with your life. Sometimes we make an effort and see no results. But that doesn’t mean your boss isn’t seeing your efforts.

I promise that you will see them eventually. As cliché as it sounds, the fruit of patience is sweet. Somewhere down the road your efforts will pay off!

4.     Comparing Yourself to Others

There will always be someone better than us. But that doesn’t mean we don’t have our own set of redeeming qualities! Think about all that you have achieved in life.

Think about the time someone complimented you on a job well done. You have what it takes to do it. You’ve done it before and you can do it again!

5.     Feeling Overwhelmed

We’ve all felt overwhelmed by a situation or a problem before. There isn’t anybody who hasn’t gone through tribulations or dealt with difficulties.

But when you need it, ask for a break. Take a few days off work if you have to. You deserve it! Don’t push yourself more than you need to.

So many people ask me what they can do to improve their performance and I always tell them to take a break when they need to!

Dealing with the harsh realities of life can wear you down but that doesn’t mean you aren’t a champion in your own right!

Just avoid these 5 roadblocks so that the path to success becomes clear.
