Create Significance – Stop focusing on the things you can’t do

As Keynote Speakers, managers, workers, authors or simply as human beings, we tend to focus on way too many things. Our thoughts become our actions. There’s so much that we want to do or achieve, but don’t always get to it. And that’s just life. It’s a bitter pill to swallow, but having the perspective and thought process to determine which are significant is priceless.

Instead of obsessing over what you can’t do, focus on the simple things that may be significant now. You may not be able to afford a new car today, but you can save some money to get it later. Perhaps your advertising firm didn’t win a major award at a prestigious event. But, you have another shot at it. Why not design a strategy to work on the areas where your company lags behind? Focusing on what you weren’t able to do will add to your worries. Over thinking your failures distorts your thinking patterns. Not to mention, regret only undermines your drive and motivation. Focusing on that which we cannot control steal our energy on our path to achieving significance.

Mistakes happen. Mistakes are a part of life. Give yourself a break. Sometimes, life is all about timing. The right time will come. Just focus on what needs to be done today. That’s the key to a happier, healthier you. Live in the present as your prep for the future as you can’t achieve success overnight.  The key is to stay focused on what you can do to achieve your goal. So as it’s been said -Stop worrying and start living.

Focusing on what you can do will …

Improve your mind and body: We are our own greatest enemies. By dwelling on your shortcomings, failures or hard times, you put your mental and physical health at risk. Stress has become a household problem today. Negative thoughts lead to mental and physical exhaustion.

Let your mind and body relax. Focus on the now rather than the negative. Let go of what you can’t achieve. Uncertainty is part of living. Learn to accept it and move forward. When you focus on the present moment, you allow your body and mind to breathe.

Change your thinking: Negativity is crippling and contagious. It can have an adverse affect on the way you function. By focusing on the present, you are doing as much as you can. On the other hand, thinking about what you can’t do spurs negative thoughts. Keep in mind, you can’t always get what you want. Instead of being ungrateful for what you don’t have, count your blessings. You may have something that someone else wished was his or hers. Focus on what you can do to stay positive.

Boost your self-esteem and self-confidence: When striving for significance and you focus on what you can do, you don’t spend time thinking of what is impossible or out of your reach. You focus on all possibilities. You focus on your strengths. This ensures natural progression that ultimately leads to better results. Above all, this is the best approach to kick-start your self-esteem and confidence level.

The bottom line is focus on what you can do today. Make the present worth living. Don’t cry over your failures. Let bygones be bygones.
